He announced as he posted the video of his setup, “This Project got me an interview at Google.” The software engineer claimed in a recent Tweet that his Dino Game concoction had gotten him a job interview at the prestigious multinational. It was not just people on Linkedin who were impressed by Akshay’s attempt at his own DIY robotic helper, the project even caught Google’s attention. Akshay though plugged a few wires together and attached these wires to another computer that had the code governing the whole operation. We all have spent some time wondering what the higher levels of the Dino Game look like.

The occult elements of the sleeve were only followed through on the central gatefold image. The influence of Austin Osman Spare on Jimmy Page’s choice of rune – or sigil – seems rather clear. For his part Jimmy Page has often maintained that Zoso was intended purely as a representative of Saturn, the ruling planet of his Capricorn sun sign, the ruler of hard work, adamantine will and strength, and necessary strengthening restriction. ‘Spare’s “sentient symbols” and his “alphabet of desire” situate this mediatory magic in a libidinal framework of Tantric – which is to say cosmological – proportions.’Īlso a writer, in his grimoire The Book of Pleasure Spare spoke of the Zos Kia Cultus, a philosophy of magic he developed that focuses on one’s individual universe and the influence of the magician’s will on it a way of thinking – influenced by Aleister Crowley – that was very familiar to Jimmy Page.Īnd Zos, of course, is only one letter away from Zoso. Spare was endeavouring to rediscover the evangelical concept of the ‘word’ as a magical complex image. These sigils would thereby become ‘monograms of thought, for the government of energy’. He would elaborate these sigils by condensing letters of the alphabet into what have been described as ‘diagrammatic glyphs of desire, which were to be integrated in postural practices’ – yoga, in other words. (Around the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin IV, Spare was championed by Kenneth Grant, a protégé of Crowley, in the popular Man, Myth and Magic encyclopaedia partwork, which commenced publication in 1970.)Īmong the several methods through which Spare communicated his art were his use of sigils, influenced by Egyptian hieroglyphics. Always taken with notions of mysticism and other worlds, Spare – like his mentor for a brief time, Aleister Crowley – claimed to have had direct experience of the existence of extra-terrestrial intelligence. Turned off by the commercial art world, he rebelled, downgrading himself and selling his work at what were nothing more than inebriated evenings masquerading as exhibition openings in South London pubs. Spare was a Clerkenwell policeman’s son who became a teenage painting prodigy, celebrated in exhibitions while still at the Royal College of Art. Looking at Spare’s paintings, you may receive similar impressions as you would when listening to the music of Led Zeppelin: images from the far, far past coupled with those from a distant science-fiction future – what you imagine and what you see are equally valid and interrelated.Īustin Osman Spare - Portrait of the Artist One of Spare’s specialities were his sidereal paintings, as though you were looking at a cinema screen from the side. It should not surprise you to learn that Spare was not only a visionary artist, but also a philosopher and occult musician he was the inspiration for what is now known as chaos magic. The work he has collected includes Spare’s 1907 Portrait of the Artist. In recent years it has become known that the world’s most prolific collector of paintings by Austin Osman Spare, sometimes described as Britain’s greatest unknown artist, is Jimmy Page. Robert Plant devised his own symbolic image, a feather within a circle, an icon that spoke very much of Native Americans but which the singer claimed was sourced from the ancient Mu civilisation.īut what of Jimmy Page’s rune? The sigil that became known as Zoso, by which Led Zeppelin IV was sometimes termed before Jimmy himself adopted it as a kind of sobriquet? (He even named his own photographic autobiography, published much later, Zoso.) As might be expected from the ever precise and measured Jimmy Page, the origins of Zoso were considerably more arcane. Bonham’s three interlocking rings represented the man, woman and child – of his marriage, presumably twisted upside down, much to the delight of the rest of the band, Bonham’s image became the logo of Ballantine beer, his Midlands local brew. Jones’s image was appropriately of an individual who possessed both confidence and competence. Both John Paul Jones and John Bonham took their sigils from Rudoph Koch’s The Book of Signs. But devised by each individual in the band. Instead, it's in a 3:2 resonance - in other words, Mercury's day is two-thirds as long as its year.Ĭloser to the Roche limit the body (an exoplanet) is deformed by tidal forces. Mercury's eccentric orbit prevents it from being in a 1:1 spin-orbit resonance. Pluto and Charon are tidally locked to each other. Examples of this are common in our Solar System. Another way of saying this is that the Moon is in a 1:1 spin-orbit resonance - the ratio of its rotational (spin) period to its orbital period is 1 to 1. We always see the same face of the Moon from the Earth because the Moon's rotation period is the same as the time it takes to complete one orbit around the Earth. This is why most satellites, like the Moon, face toward their planet - they are "tidally locked" in that orientation. Just as the Earth's rotation is slowing due to the Moon's tidal force on it, the Moon's rotation has slowed until it is locked into this position. The same tidal force that stretches a satellite also tends to slow its rotation until the longest axis of the satellite lines up with the planet. (The Moon is shown in polar view, and is not drawn to scale.) If the Moon didn't spin at all, then it would alternately show its near and far sides to the Earth while moving around our planet in orbit, as shown in the figure on the right. Except for libration effects, this results in it keeping the same face turned towards the Earth, as seen in the figure on the left. The findings of this study were published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters, and they can be accessed here.įor weather, science, and COVID-19 updates on the go, download The Weather Channel App (on Android and iOS store).Tidal locking results in the Moon rotating about its axis in about the same time it takes to orbit the Earth. In future studies, Hay and his team of researchers intend to see what happens when they lift that constraint, and also study the true depth of the oceans within these moons.Īll in all, getting a complete picture of how these moons influence each other is crucial, as it could shed light on how Jupiter’s wonderful moon system evolved as a whole, and also improve our understanding of how ocean worlds in compact systems evolve. However, this current model functions on the assumption that the tidal resonances never get too extreme. Subsequently, these moons begin experiencing more heating than that caused by Jupiter alone, and in extreme cases, it could also result in the melting of ice or rock internally, especially on Io. This leads to the generation of fast-flowing tidal waves, which effectively release significant amounts of heat into the oceans and crusts of Io and Europa. It was only when the researchers added in the gravitational influence of the other moons that they started to see tidal forces approaching the natural frequencies of the moons.Īs the tides generated by other moons resonate with a moon’s frequency, they serve as an energy source and excite the subsurface lunar oceans near their natural frequencies. Incidentally, the oceans on Jupiter’s moons are so thick, that the planet’s influence alone is incapable of creating tides with the right frequency to resonate with the moons. “You wouldn't expect them to be able to create such a large tidal response.”įor any moon to experience tidal resonance, their oceans must be tens to hundreds of kilometers thick. “It's surprising because the moons are so much smaller than Jupiter,” said the paper's lead author Hamish Hay, a postdoctoral fellow at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The tidal heating is what causes the interiors of the moons to heat-up, and it is driven by a phenomenon called tidal resonance. But now, a new study has found that moon-moon interactions may be more responsible for the heating than the Gas Giant.Įssentially, the researchers have found that the moons gravitationally tug at each other and create friction-a process called tidal heating-while Jupiter itself stretches and squishes them. Previously, researchers believed that Jupiter was the sole reason behind most of the heating associated with Io's internal ocean of magma as well as the liquid interiors of its three icy Galilean moons: Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. And on the planet’s innermost moon, Io, the heat is intense enough to melt rocks into magma. Despite being so far away from the Sun, Jupiter’s moons are hot-hotter than they should be! The beautiful, icy moons are known to contain interiors warm enough to host oceans of liquid water. You can enter them by accident, just do not purchase anything. If you do, reload your check point (hopefully that will work).įirst things first, enter the button sequence at the main menu to unlock the hardest difficulty. Now go purchase the Season Pass if you have not already. This is not required, but it will make things much easier for you. While this mode is the most difficult, it is not as bad as one might think. At first without powers and only a pistol, you will feel like the game is going to be extreme. Once you start getting certain equipment, powers, and upgrades, you will be able to do fine. Specifically, after gaining Elizabeth, you will be thrown ammo, Salts, and even money. Only upgrade the Carbine Rifle completely as well as Bucking Bronco and Charge once obtained. This will allow you to have all of your money available upon death. Once you die, you spend $100 to be revived. You may end the game with around $4,000 if you only upgraded what I suggested and died a few times here and there. If you read the description for 1999 Mode, I have given the perfect build to be extremely hard to kill and always have Salt/Ammo/Health. It's a melee build and it works beautifully.Īlso, as far as Infusion upgrades, be sure to put most of it into health. Shields break extremely easily and upgrading them doesn't give you much more of it. If for some reason you have failed at collecting everything or gaining certain achievements, go ahead and pick a chapter to reload and gain what you need. If you really enjoyed the game, start another playthrough on Easy to focus on what you have missed. After playing 1999 mode, you will find it laughable. This is a standalone DLC which means none of your progress, money, upgrades, etc shows up in it. You must earn money and complete waves to get all of your progress back. The good news is that you can keep farming the money by completing the same waves and challenges. #Bioshock infinite trophy guide upgrade. Īmos's great-grandmother, Little Margaret, allegedly evaded the forced relocation of Native Americans by taking refuge in the Great Smoky Mountains, her family's place of residence. Of particular importance to her as a child was her maternal grandfather, Calvin Clinton Copeland, who she claims was part Cherokee and has cited as a great source of inspiration and guidance, offering a pantheistic spiritual alternative to her father and paternal grandmother's traditional Christianity. Cherokee ancestry claims Īmos has claimed Cherokee heritage on her mother's side. Before this, she had performed under her middle name, Ellen, and was considering the stage name 'Sammy J' at the time, but permanently adopted Tori after a friend's boyfriend told her she looked like a Torrey pine, a tree native to the West Coast. The song did not win the contest but became her first single, released as a 7-inch single pressed locally for family and friends in 1980 with another Amos-penned composition as a B-side, "Walking With You". As a senior at Richard Montgomery High School, she co-wrote " Baltimore" with her brother, Mike Amos, for a competition involving the Baltimore Orioles. Īmos won a county teen talent contest in 1977, singing a song called "More Than Just a Friend". At thirteen, Amos began playing at gay bars and piano bars, chaperoned by her father. In 1972, the Amos family moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, where her father became pastor of the Good Shepherd United Methodist church. Amos has asserted that she lost the scholarship because of her interest in rock and popular music, coupled with her dislike for reading from sheet music. In 1974, when she was eleven, her scholarship was discontinued, and she was asked to leave. She studied classical piano at Peabody from 1968 to 1974. Īt five, she became the youngest student ever admitted to the preparatory division of the Peabody Institute. I started visiting this world when I was three, listening to a piece by Béla Bartók I visited a configuration that day that wasn't on this earth. For instance, the sound of the words with the sound of the chord progression combined with the rhythm manifests itself in a unique expression of the architecture of color-and-light. Obviously similar chord progressions follow similar light patterns, but try to imagine the best kaleidoscope ever-after the initial excitement, you start to focus on each element's stunning original detail. As long as I've been doing this, which is more than thirty-five years, I've never seen the same light creature in my life. The song appears as light filament once I've cracked it. She has described seeing music as structures of light since early childhood, an experience consistent with chromesthesia: From the time she could reach the piano, she taught herself to play: when she was two, she could reproduce pieces of music she had only heard once, and, by the age of three, she was composing her own songs. Her older brother and sister took piano lessons, but Tori did not need them. When she was two years old, her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where her father had transplanted his Methodist ministry from its original base in Washington, D.C. She was born on Aug at the Old Catawba Hospital in Newton, North Carolina, during a trip from their Georgetown home in Washington, D.C., and was named Myra Ellen Amos. Early life and education Īmos is the third child of Mary Ellen (Copeland) and Edison McKinley Amos. She is listed on VH1's 1999 "100 Greatest Women of Rock and Roll" at number 71. Amos has received five MTV VMA nominations and eight Grammy Award nominations, and won an Echo Klassik award for her Night of Hunters classical crossover album. Her charting singles include " Crucify", " Silent All These Years", " God", " Cornflake Girl", " Caught a Lite Sneeze", " Professional Widow", " Spark", " 1000 Oceans", " Flavor" and " A Sorta Fairytale", her most commercially successful single in the U.S. Her songs focus on a broad range of topics, including sexuality, feminism, politics, and religion. Amos was the lead singer of the short-lived 1980s pop group Y Kant Tori Read before achieving her breakthrough as a solo artist in the early 1990s. She had to leave at the age of eleven when her scholarship was discontinued for what Rolling Stone described as "musical insubordination". Having already begun composing instrumental pieces on piano, Amos won a full scholarship to the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University at the age of five, the youngest person ever to have been admitted. She is a classically trained musician with a mezzo-soprano vocal range. Tori Amos (born Myra Ellen Amos August 22, 1963) is an American singer-songwriter and pianist. When my kids and I sit down with a blank piece of paper and some crayons, I still feel that sense of, “oh no, how do I get started?” Years later, with kids of my own, I still try to incorporate as much art as possible into our daily routines. Whether it was a photograph or looking at a live object, I definitely needed a little bit of help to get started. But when it came to detail, I typically always needed some kind of reference. Sure, I could draw the basics from my head. I always thought this was so amazing as I was never able to do that very well. That meant tons of drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpting and plenty more! Some of my classmates had the ability to sit down and just draw something from memory. Oftentimes, infographics on social media will have links to donate/ petition for specific organizations. Not only do these posts increase awareness of large-scale issues, but some people may be encouraged to take their newfound understanding to the next level. Danielle Estagle, a sophomore at CHS, says, “I do feel that these infographics are helpful because they keep me educated and aware of relevant topics in today’s world that I would otherwise not know much about.” Katie Lien, a sophomore, agrees, saying, “I think that Instagram infographic posts generate a positive response that has the potential of igniting passion and interest.” Thus, infographics propagating Instagram foster a more politically aware generation. Social media is the primary news source for Generation Z. While its convenience may yield positive impacts, its vast oversimplification of intricate issues proves to have many ramifications. They are designed to be easily understood and aesthetically pleasing to drive their proliferation. Today, infographic posts are catered to the general public. Infographics eventually became weaponized as political tools for political persuasion. At the turn of the 20th Century, newspapers and magazines began to regularly publish infographics, realizing it appealed to their audience to have a concise visual representation of an article. “ were very much bound up in an elite discourse,” Dick points out, “…elite people talking to other elite people about elite issues.”Īs it evolved, the exclusivity of the infographic audience began to metastasize to the general population. In the beginning, infographics were catered to a niche audience. Scottish engineer and economist William Playfair had conceptualized bar charts, pie charts, and line charts to drive the creation of infographics. More and more people were collecting and generating data to use in textbooks, reference books, and other academic publications.Įventually, researchers began to look for a clear, visual alternative to presenting their dense data. During the late Enlightenment period, the number of works and studies being published spiked exponentially. Murray Dick, the author of The Infographic: A History of Data Graphics in News and Communications, the emergence of infographics at the end of the 18th Century was practically inevitable. However, infographics have existed long before then. Posts about Black Lives Matter attempted to disseminate bite-sized information on a massive social issue. This term is often coupled with slacktivism - or activism requiring minimal effort that yields insignificant results.įollowing the murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, Instagram infographics transformed into vehicles to signal wokeness and generate profit, jamming Instagram feeds. Performative activism is defined as using social gain as a primary motivator for activism. The infographic industrial complex has evolved into a form of performative activism utilized by the masses. Anyone can make an infographic and everyone has a platform to share them on. However, unique to this complex is the use of social media as a medium. Individual designers, brands, and governmental organizations are the perpetrators of the infographic industrial complex, leeching on activist movements to generate profit and/or popularity. The industrial complex is notorious for its perpetuation of social issues in exchange for financial gain. While the initial intent of these businesses may be to advance its host institution toward its end goal, it bolsters profit during the process. This commensal relationship negatively impacts the consumers of these profit economies. The industrial complex is a socioeconomic phenomenon where businesses interweave themselves within social and political systems. How do you get a kid to sleep without melatonin? To be safe, never give a child more than the recommended dose. If someone is experiencing a melatonin overdose, call your local poison control center or the National Poison Help Line: 1‑800‑222‑1222. Symptoms of melatonin overdose include headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and agitation, and melatonin overdose can lead to suppression of breathing and coma. The exact toxic dose has not been determined, but large amounts can cause toxicity. What happens if a child takes too much melatonin?ĭata on the adverse effects of melatonin are limited. Talk to your child’s doctor to determine the best dose for your child. Typical dosing ranges from 0.5 to 10 mg, 30 to 60 minutes before the desired bedtime. There are no clear-cut dosing guidelines for melatonin. How much melatonin should you give a child? Ask your child’s doctor about potential adverse effects and long-term safety data. The goal should be to take the lowest dose possible for the least amount of time. Talk to your child’s doctor to determine what’s best.īecause melatonin is a hormone, taking supplements could theoretically affect hormonal development. There have been questions about melatonin’s effect on puberty, but research is not conclusive. When melatonin is given to children, sleep behavior strategies should also be part of the treatment. Melatonin is generally well-tolerated, but there are few studies on melatonin supplements and children. Usually and most effectively it’s used for short-term sleep disorders, such as jet lag. When people have trouble sleeping, they take melatonin supplements to add to what the body normally produces. It’s found in different formulations of varying strength, purity, and efficacy, and it is not regulated by the FDA. Melatonin is also designated as a dietary supplement in the United States and is available without a prescription. Melatonin regulates the circadian clock and promotes quality sleep. The brain produces melatonin in response to darkness: more when it’s dark out (night) to help you sleep, less when it’s light (day) to help you wake up. So, is melatonin safe for kids? We spoke with pediatric neurologist Arezou Heshmati, MD, to find out. This trend aligns with a spike in melatonin-related calls to poison control centers and hospitalizations in the United States, according to a recent report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Lately, perhaps in response to COVID-related stress and insomnia, children and teenagers are following suit (with help from mom and dad). Melatonin is the supplement of choice for many adults who have trouble getting quality sleep. After three years of securing the rights and three years of working on it I was glad to see it launch. Are you surprised by the success of that show? I gave him the first couple of scripts and he really loved it.Īlong with Motown Magic, Beat Bugs returned to Netflix this month for its third season. Working with him was the best thing ever! There would be days when we were working on the show, and Smokey would turn to me and say “how do you want to chart this song?’ In what world does Smokey Robinson ask me that question? He was a great collaborator – I wouldn’t have done it unless I had his blessing. What role does Smokey Robinson play in the development of the series, and how was it to work with him on the project? Each episode uses the narrative of an iconic Motown song, which serves as the platform and inspiration for the story. Everybody knows that Motown music is good, but I don’t think they realize that in 100 years a Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder or Smokey Robinson song is going to sound just as amazing as it did in the 1960s. We have the latest animation techniques and technologies, so I thought the alchemy of bringing this timeless music from the 60’s with cutting edge animation would be a good combination for viewers. The music is still perfect, so we’re doing to make it more accessible to a modern era. I think this is my small part in imparting that to a younger generation. I think 100 years from now people will still be talking about the fact that made that many number ones in a fairly condensed period of time, and the architecture of the songs are so advanced. How do you translate the Motown sound to a new generation of viewers who may not ever heard of Motown? I was convinced it was the most extraordinary music formed for families because it was melodically engaging enough for the children’s mind, but also had some often-challenging social messages. Even before I did the show Beat Bugs on Netflix I wanted to do something around the Motown catalog. I remember it being the most celestial and amazing music ever, and I’ve never really changed that point of view. When I was eight years old Stevie Wonder came to Australia, and my mom took me to his concert. Motown has always held a special place for me as it has for the world. |
